A Diesel Common Rail System (CRDI – Common Rail Direct Injection) is an advanced fuel injection technology used in modern diesel engines. It improves fuel efficiency, reduces emissions, and enhances engine performance by precisely controlling fuel injection through an electronically controlled high-pressure fuel rail.

How the Common Rail System Works:
1. Fuel Pump Pressurizes Diesel – A high-pressure fuel pump compresses diesel fuel up to 1,500–2,500 bar (22,000–36,000 psi).
2. Fuel Stored in a Common Rail – Unlike older systems, the pressurized fuel is stored in a common rail (a shared high-pressure fuel line) before being injected.
3. Electronic Injectors Spray Fuel – The Engine Control Unit (ECU) controls each injector electronically, ensuring precise fuel delivery at the right moment.
4. Multiple Injection Events – Instead of a single large injection, CRDI systems can perform multiple injections per cycle, improving efficiency and reducing noise.
5. Exhaust Sensors Optimize Combustion – Feedback from oxygen (O₂) and NOx sensors helps the ECU fine-tune fuel delivery for better performance and emissions control.

Main Components of a Common Rail System:
1. High-Pressure Fuel Pump – Compresses fuel to extremely high pressure.
2. Common Rail (Fuel Rail) – A high-pressure fuel storage system supplying injectors.
3. Electronic Fuel Injectors – Precisely inject fuel into the combustion chamber.

5. Fuel Pressure Regulator – Adjusts rail pressure based on engine load and speed.
6. Fuel Filter & Sensors – Ensure clean fuel supply and monitor system performance.
