5 Causes of Squeaky or Skipping Wiper Blades
Windshield wipers are an inexpensive and simple component that is often overlooked in basic maintenance.

Common Causes of Squeaking Windshield Wipers
There are a few reasons why wiper blades may squeak or jump. Luckily, they’re all relatively cheap and easy to fix.

1) Your windshield is dirty or dry
When your windshield is dirty, small pieces of dirt and debris are picked up by the wipers and scraped all over the windshield as they move. Before replacing your wipers, make sure your windshield washer fluid is filled and working effectively.
If you notice that there isn’t much washer fluid on your windshield, check your washer fluid nozzles. These are usually located behind the hood, near the windshield. Over time, the washer fluid nozzles can become clogged with dirt.
You should see a consistent spray pattern from the washer fluid nozzles.
2) Dirt on the wipers
In this case, spraying windshield washer fluid is unlikely to remove the deposits. Pull up the wiper blades and check the rubber. The surface should be clean and smooth. Any imperfections can cause squeaking when the wipers move.
3) Product deposits
Some products, such as car wax, can squeak or skip when applied to your windshield.

If you buy a wiper blade that’s too long or too short, the wiper may have the wrong curvature or may rub against things other than the glass of your car as you wipe. Double-check your owner’s manual, look for a book at an auto parts store, or search online to find the right wiper blade size for your specific vehicle.
