Transaxle Repair

An automotive transaxle is an assembly that combines a transmission and differential. This means that a transaxle allows you to change gears (like a transmission) and distribute engine power to the vehicle’s wheels (like a differential).

Many modern cars have a transaxle, which places the engine in the same area that drives the wheels. The most common cars with transaxles are most all-wheel drives and all front-engine front-wheel drive cars. Corvettes, including the new C8, are known for having transaxles. Don’t confuse a transaxle with a transmission, as they are two different things. A transaxle incorporates a transmission, but it’s not just a transmission, as it also incorporates a differential. In a vehicle without a transaxle, the transmission and differential are two separate assemblies connected through a driveshaft.

The reason transaxles are becoming more popular today is because they allow for more even weight distribution between the front and rear axles, which makes the vehicle easier to handle and reduces the overall weight.
