5 Symptoms of a Faulty Activated Charcoal Canister
Engine exhaust systems emit large amounts of carbon dioxide, which is released into the environment. This is why gasoline engines remain controversial among those concerned about the environment. In this way, the environment can continue to be protected from these emissions.
1) High Emissions
Charcoal canisters are designed to prevent harmful carbon compounds from being released into the environment, so a faulty charcoal canister won’t do much to help. This will release much more carbon emissions.
If your state requires you to take this test every 1-2 years, be aware that if you fail the test, the charcoal canister may be to blame.
2) Fuel Odor
You may notice a strong smell of fuel near the rear of the vehicle or inside the vehicle because smoke can escape from a damaged charcoal canister. You do not want to smell these fumes for long periods of time as it can make you very ill.
3) Ringing Noise
If the charcoal canister does not handle carbon emissions effectively, it can affect the ignition of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. This results in an unusual noise coming from the engine. There could be other causes for this ringing noise.
4) Poor Performance
The main symptom to look out for is a decrease in engine performance. When carbon emissions are not properly returned to the combustion chamber and mixture issues occur, the engine is unable to produce enough power to meet acceleration needs. This means that when you press the gas pedal, it doesn’t accelerate as fast as it should.
5) Check Engine Light
Having your check engine light come on could literally mean that one of over 100 problems is wrong.
